she soon grew cranky and was ready to go cool off at the hotel pool
This is true for different things...like Autumn going on some hikes in Moab, UT (see above) which I'll cover at another time. And then there's me cooking something new.
So a week ago Sunday, I made a small serving of my carefully researched, but inevitably "thrown-together" version of Ma La Huo Guo. otherwise known as "numb and spicy fire pot"...or just hot pot for us commoners. I wanted to craft something that could possibly represent the ChongQing version even though we passed on trying it while we were actually in ChongQing City.
I am happy to say that I think I was relatively successful. G was totally into it and commented that it was very good! It was hot/spicy...and I found out first-hand about the "numbing" effect of the Sichuan peppercorn. It is quite a sensation to have a wonderful taste in your mouth layered by a"hot, spicy" feeling on your tongue then suddenly feeling part of your lips begin to tingle and 'numb'. as Keanu would say: "whoa"
So Saturday I'm making a larger portion and will try it out on some unsuspecting guests...(just kidding those who are attending hehe) when we gather to observe the Mid-Autumn Festival. (which is technically the 25th but since that's a Tuesday...)
lots of things going on which I'll try to cover another time, but I have to say we have had "Elmo's Potty Time" DVD playing every day after we all get home for the past two weeks. You see, ms. Autumn is..yep you guessed it...working on those potty skills. We've had one successful attempt and lots of "just went right before getting to the potty" and "just went right after being on the potty" happenings. The idea and concept is there...it's just the timing she's got to work out. In her own time of course. We learned that from Elmo. okay...we knew that already, but somehow it's more fun hearing that from a little furry red monster than reading it from a book. :)
