teeth.
okay. question. who all remembers what it was like when your teeth were coming in. I don't. I have several memories of losing teeth and having teeth pulled, but not from when I was an infant/toddler and they were coming in.
When we got Autumn in China, she had four front teeth up top and four front teeth on bottom. She also pretty much had the two lower molars on the way through. Since that day through a few days ago, she's gotten the two upper molars in. I don't know if they're totally done, but for the most part the obvious pain and aggrevation Autumn felt was over.
Cut to today.
AR has been very very cranky thus far today. She did get a good nights sleep...I went in to perform a diaper change about midnight. G had already gone to bed and was asleep and I was working on our pictures and video...putting it into Sony Vegas for my DVD of our adoption journey, so I took care of Autumn's "business", put her back in the crib and she fell right back to sleep (through the rest of the night). We weren't too sure exactly why she was being cranky and "clingy" to us this morning until we noticed the drooling and the fact that everything was going into her mouth...toys, fingers, anything (obviously we immediately inserted the teething toys). Baby Oralgel is great...it really works for AR.
However, I can imagine that when you're napping and sleeping peacefully when suddenly "blam-o!" you're awaken by your gums and teeth hurting...that's not so good. Her afternoon nap cut short, I again did the father's duty...went in, changed wet diaper, and then moved to lay AR back down in her crib so she could fall back to sleep. And I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for those darn teeth.
See, she has two upper teeth now showing like they're about to break through and they haven't been as kind to her as some of the others. She's been noticably more aggrevated by these so far than when her upper molars were breaking through. Personally, my heart aches for her because believe me over the past three years I've had the wonderful honour of having several root canals done on a few teeth and having the pleasantries of swelling and infection to warrant said root canals. Not fun. So I can imagine how it must feel to have this process of teeth breaking through gums and setting into place. Owwwie wowwie! :( Hopefully these two teeth will come in quickly for her.
*update 1/14* upon further reading, we discovered that AR's getting her upper canine teeth. She's been really really needy/clingy/cranky so far this morning. We did alittle infant tylanol (not quite a full pediatrician recommended dose...yet) and frozen gel teethers, soft rubber vibrating teether, etc.
According to what we've read and been told, she still has her bottom pair of canines, and both pair of upper and lower back molars left to come in after this. At least on the bright-side, that's all she has left for incoming teeth.
